March 20 -The occasion is The Great American Meatout, the world's largest and oldest annual grassroots diet education campaign. Every spring, thousands of Meatout supporters educate their communities and ask their friends, families, and neighbors to pledge to "kick the meat habit (at least for a day) and explore a wholesome, nonviolent diet of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. EARTH DAY!

Earth Day is approximately April 22 although some will remember the original Earth Day on the March equinox decades ago. Most are moving to an Earth Month in April, which is even better! Dare we hope for taking care of Mother Earth year round?!

October 1 - World Vegetarian Day -celebrated since 1977. It brings awareness to the ethical, environmental, health and humanitarian benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle. The beginning of World Vegetarian Awareness Month.

October 2 - World Farm Animals Day is coordinated by FARM (Farm Animal Rights Movement), a non-profit national advocacy organization promoting plant-based (vegan) diets to save animals, reduce global warming, conserve environmental resources, and improve public health.
